Vivian Taylor

December 27, 1924 — May 4, 2019

Vivian Sims Driggers Taylor went peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on May 4, 2019 at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 27, 1924 to the late Charles Hartwell Sims and Pearl Powell Sims.

Vivian was a resident of Selma since 1928, having moved from Pine Hill, Alabama at the age of four. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church since that time. You could often find her at the church seven days a week serving in numerous capacities, until her health prevented her from doing so. She was a Sunday School teacher, G.A. leader, Training Union teacher, W.M.U. Director, choir member and served on various committees. She was selected Mrs. W.M.U. in the Alabama Baptist state periodical and spent her life witnessing and serving the Lord. She would say that the two most important things in her life were her family and church.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Light officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. A private family burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, 2nd Lt. Ned Driggers, a WWII pilot buried in Normandy, France and Travis Taylor; daughter, Teresa Taylor Pierce; son-in-law, David Kirkpatrick; siblings, Evelyn Sims (Clarence “Rudy” ) Rohrdanz, Charles Hartwell (Barbara Kirby) Sims, Jr., Marion Sims (Preston) Brown - (James “Buddy”) Duren, Lloyd Wallace (Patty Sue) Sims and Sylvia Sims (Lt. Col. C.W.) Fisher.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Ned Driggers (Astor) Taylor and Lynn Taylor Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Mallory Taylor (Charles) Underwood, Marc Sims (Kira) Taylor, Blair Taylor (Jeremiah) Jackson, Zachary Bradford (Terra) Pierce, Erin Kirkpatrick (William) Lynam and Sarah Lynn Kirkpatrick; great grandchildren, Bailey, Drew and Jackson Underwood, Marik Taylor, Emory and Campbell Jackson, Ava and Carter Pierce and Haynes Lynam; sister-in-law, Betty Gray Driggers and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
