Willetta Mooney

September 4, 1922 — July 12, 2020

Willetta E. Mooney, age 97, went home to her Saviour on July 12, 2020. She was born on September 4, 1922 in Gordo, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Arrington Mooney, twin brother John Elmore, her sister Ervene Elmore and daughter-in-law Nell Whidby Mooney.

She is survived by her son Jack Mooney, grandsons Neal and James Mooney, great grandchildren Robbie Anderson, Katie (Charles) Livingston, Jackson, Helen, Arrington and Parker Mooney and McKenzie Carr, close friends Bill Nickles and Sue Lewis, and her faithful grand dog Willie.

Mrs. Mooney (MawMaw) was a member of the Cambridge Christian Church since 1950. She was very active with her church family and was a member of the Cambridge Community Missionary Group. She was a member of the Orrville Sewing Group and was well known for her expertise in crochet. She crocheted names for people to frame numbering in the hundreds. She also crocheted Nativity Scenes for many people. She was an employee of the Dallas County School System in many capacities, most notable being the school secretary of Orrville High School, cafeteria manager, bus driver and worked at the Dallas County Learning Center until her retirement at age 62.

Miss Willetta, as she was known to many, could tell a story to rival all others. She was instrumental in the completion of the Memories of Orrville book. She would keep everyone enthralled with her stories of times at school and the people  whom she had met along the way, many having all around her laughing at her memories.

She was a godly woman who will be missed by so many. Whomever she met, she loved and passed her love of Christ to all.

Mrs. Mooney will be laid to rest at Cambridge Christian Church Cemetery in a graveside ceremony on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10 a.m. Presiding at the service will be her pastor, Dr. Ed Eaton. Pall bearers will be Randy Sheehan, Tike Sheehan, Bobby Roberts, Bobby Dearman, Larry Nichols and Butch Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Sheehan andTerry Sheehan.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Cambridge Christian Church, P.O. Box 218, Orrville, AL 36767.

“Grace was in all her steps, heaven in her eye, in every gesture, dignity and love.” Rest in peace, Miss Willetta.
